Main topic: Setting the footer for print

Setting the footer for print (by Normunds Kalnberzins, 11/29/2006 02:21:44 AM)

for all i know 256 is the limit for header/footer text, so the only solution seems to be to parse RT and create your own pages. That again is not an easy task. rtLib could do the parsing, but then there should be some additional logic that figures out pagebreaks and adds the headers/footers accordingly.

Or there is an option to export DXL and use FOP to vonvert to PDF and then print PDF.

There are several limitations:

* first -- all you clients should use Notes version that supports DXL export AND recognize all design elements you might want to print. Also different Notes versions may export slightly different format (for some elements)

* in case it hits something it does not understand it just exports RT blob, that you can do nothing with. "Iris" guys seems to claim this happens only in some situations of MIME conversion (i.e. emails from outside world) when you can get non-compatible RT structures. I think I've seen such situations also with normal Notes mails, but I've never tracked down these situations. So there is slight chance your otherwise elaborate system breaks down on this. Or say, sooner or later somebody will hit this.

* last, but not least you have to provide XSLT for all design elements that could be present; again -- if you say -- anything could be there, it's close to mission impossible.

Maybe there are some PDF converters/print-to-PDF tools that allow to capture Notes printing and at the same time add headers/footers; I'm not aware of any, but there is a chance.
